Enggano into Climate Research Center

Enggano Island, North Bengkulu District, Bengkulu Province, will be research climate centers and aerospace run by the National Aeronautics and Space Institute.

“Island Enggano not for the defense satellite launch, but the climate research centers and other applied technology,” said Head of Regional Development Planning Board Bengkulu Province Edy Waluyo, in Bengkulu, Tuesday (24/01/2012). He said cooperation with Lapan been pioneered by signing a memorandum of understanding related to the development plan of the research center.

Previously, it is feared development the satellite launcher station that will adversely affect residents living in the outer islands. “If for the sake of defense, certainly not built in areas occupied by residents,” he added.

Edy said, in the near Lapan will decide whether the project is feasible or not forwarded because they’ve done a preliminary survey. The survey team from the Provincial Government of Bengkulu Lapan and set three candidates development location that have been surveyed and the results are immediately agree. All three location are located in the south of the island or people call it “reverse island” because there are no settlements in the region.
